Clinical Efficacy of Mabuterol in Patients with Mronchial Asthma



Abstract
Mabuterol, a new selective beta 2 agonist, was evaluated for bronchodilator effect an, side effects in 30 patients with bronchial asthma. Mabuterol was administered orally 100,u g : day divided 2 times for over 4 weeks.
Baseline pulmonary function test, symptom score, heart rate and blood pressure were checked and monitored serially 2 and 4 weeks after oral administration of mabuterol. The results were as follows;
1) Improvement¢¥in pulmonary -function test (improvement of FEVI or FVC more than 15¡Æ¢¥.) was observed in 12 of 30 cases with bronchial asthma(40%). 2) The efficacy rate revealed 83%(25/30).
3) There were no statistical significant changes in heart rate and blood pressure be ween pretreatment and posttreatment.
4) Side effects, such as palpitation, tremor, headache, gastrointestinal trouble and muscle cramp were occurred in 5 patients but these ones were transient and mild.
